Two critical dos for the practice:
D#1: Use plenty of lube, apply it to your finger and insert said finger using pressure, never pushing, shoving, or poking. Wiggle finger around and back and forth so that the lube is spread to the sphincters.
D#2: Apply lube to whatever else might be going in like a dildo and always preceed these with a finger in order to condition the sphincters so that the y get used to something going in rather than out.
