Does circumcision make a difference to sex?

Hi all. I'm due to see my doctor in a month to discuss me having a circumcision - I know its rare to have one at my age (25) can anyone tell me if it will affect my sensitivity longterm during intercourse? Obviously I know short term it will be extra sensitive! Though it will be better than feeling like I have a rubberband biting into my penis everytime I get aroused.

Cheers - sorry if i posted this in the wrong place.

People who are circumcised will tell you that they do start losing their sensitivity after awhile, usually around their 40s or so.

I am curious as to why you are having the procedure done. Is it a medical matter or just a personal choice.

It's medical, to be honest I should have had it picked up much sooner. My foreskin retracts, but it's very tight especially when the penis is erect. Bit of a mood killer sometimes to say the least. And painful too.

Ew, that has to suck.

If at all possible I would see if you can just get it partially snipped and see if that would help any. But I'm not medical doctor and I have no idea if that would help any or not. I'm just someone who likes uncircumcised penises. lol.

But to answer the question again, you will lose some sensitivity. The foreskin is what protects the head and keeps it so sensitive as it's not exposed all the time. You take that away, it constantly rubs up against things, is exposed just like normal skin, and therefore just becomes less sensitive over time.

Yea, you should see about just getting it partially cut back. I did cuz mine would go back but it was real difficult cuz it was a long one that stuck out in front so the hole was small and had to really stretch to go back and it hurt like you say. I had the doctor just cut the front part away leaving most of it so now it almost covers the tip but not quite and goes back real easy. I am a chicken so I had the doctor knock me totally out for this cuz otherwise he was going to just numb it. It hurt for a few days and oozed so I got some feminine pads and put around the wound. The other hard part was not jacking off for a week or so but I'd do it again. See if maybe you can have it cut back abit to where it covers most of you but is open enough to go back without pain and then that way you won't loose your sensitivitiy. I'm 20 and had it done three years ago when I had my folk's insurance. It took me a few years before I could tell my folks but I finally had to cuz I couldn't stand it anymore.

Um... I'm not a guy and I'm not a doctor, but I was of the notion that the foreskin was the most sensitive part so if you're to cut it off you become quite desensitised (sp?). I was also reading that the foreskin adds more pleasure for females, but then I don't really know that. So I'd agree with getting it partially cut back if it's causing you much pain.

Yeah, that'd be the same as me by the sound of it - I'm going to hospital next month to see the specialist so I'll talk over the options then. BTW he's already suggested a general anesthetic because the procedure is quite bloody.

This is advice you need to be getting from the doctor not from a bunch of people the net. Some of these statements are accurate and some are inaccurate. Talk to the doctor.

Here is a link to a very informative site regarding the foreskin:

http://www.noharmm.org/advantage.htm

The foreskin is richly endowed with sensitive nerve endings that work in harmony with those of the Glans. Remove the foreskin and you loose the nerves and their benefit. Remove the foreskin and eventually the nerve endings in the Glans loose much of their sensitivity by simply being exposed and constantly rubbed by clothing and body. This might take years, and as good as those feelings are, they are not nearly as intense and dynamic as in men who remain intact. I have a longtime friend who was circumcised as an adult for medical reasons and he concurs with the sexperts on this. He says he's lost a lot of "ability" to use his words.

Oh I am, I just wondered if anyone had the experience. I'm due to go under the Knife on 16th May, wish me luck!

Wow, it seems from that link about uncircumcised benefits certainly does make ya think. I am circumcised. I can't complain at all--the sensations I have and sensitivity are fantastic. I can't imagine that I could be even more sensitive. Let's hope that doesn't go away.

There is one thing that I've learned from research, lovers, and chit chat--there are a handful of men that don't wash under the skin. This produces nasty funk, can smell horrible, and is unhealthy. Most men pull the skin back and clean it...but some do not. Can you imagine?

Yeah, cleaning under the foreskin is extremely important (and fun). But when you think about it, women have to do exactly the same thing, what with all the plumbing located within a few square inches.

Back on topic: This is neither medical nor scientific, but Slate.com did a reader's survey asking men's opinions about whether or not circumcision added to or took away from sex. The opinions were culled from men who had the procedure done in adult hood. Have a look here: http://www.slate.com/id/2136062/

Good luck. And as a woman aware that circumcised penises are less likely to introduce HPV into me, thanks.

There are over 100 HPV types.
About 30 of these types are sexually transmitted and cause genital HPV.
Genital HPV is spread through skin-to-skin contact, not through an exchange of bodily fluid.
Genital HPV cannot be entirely prevented by condom use.
This virus is often asymptomatic -- people usually don't know they have it.
About 5.5 million new genital HPV cases occur each year -- this is about 1/3 of all new STD infections.
About 20 million people -- men and women -- are thought to have an active HPV infection at any given time.
Nearly three out of four Americans between the ages of 15 and 49 have been infected with genital HPV in their lifetime.
HPV can be contracted from one partner, remain dormant, and then later be unknowingly transmitted to another sexual partner, including a spouse.

transmitted through skin to skin contact. the only reason having foreskin increases those chances, is simply because there is more skin
