Hiring a wing woman
I recently saw a segment that there is now a service for guys to hire a wingwoman for meeting women. A simple concept where the hired woman approaches a woman the man likes. She breaks the ice and introduces the man to the woman to spark a conversation, then the guy is on his own. What do you think about a business like this?

It's a business copy of what has been going on for ages: mostly shy guys having female friends, but no girlfriend. And because these girls all know he's so cute and would love to see him happy, but he's too shy to make his move, they put in a good word for him. Which sometimes works, but sometimes also does nothing more but finding him yet another "friend" instead of girlfriend
![]() If a girl introduces me to a guy, I take it as a first (safety)sign of "this guy is probably ok". But if he's hired someone, because he's too shy to make a first move, will he really be able to talk himself through this? Won't he squirm like a mouse in a trap the minute any part of the conversation is regarding his "friend"? ![]() I get the idea of how guys could be desperate. And how there's money to be made out of anything. But... really? This is a quick fix of which I doubt it really pays off. If they'd want to spent money, better invest it in assertiveness/confidence-training Or just step up and buy the lady a drink ![]()

Dreadful and Ineffective - it doesn't solve the problem.
Women want men, not mice. Women distrust men they do not know esp if he's "bought" the introduction or lied. Socially a woman can introduce a man to another woman - but there might be politics involved so even that is not without its risks. Frankly, it is better if he just mans up. |

I'm sure lots of shy guys would use this but I think the purpose of using a wingwoman is to be different and not make the desired woman feel like she is pray so to speak. Women don't feel like that when women approach them, unless they are in a lesbian bar I guess. To the woman I think if a girl introduces a guy to them he is just there to have a good time and socialize. It is really no different then the guys taking turns being a wingman for each other. The man has to be able to hold a conversation so for super shy guys this would not likely work. Using a wingwoman just seems to be more effective, and this service is for guys that dont have a good female friend to go out with.
The founder of the company was interviewed and said the idea came to him when he went out with his female friends, and he started getting numbers without having that goal ahead of time. EEK - of course the woman will not know before hand that she is hired. I have been at functions where friends introduce me and the encounters have been successful. I was just there to have fun and it naturally happened. This business is not natural but seems to be just as effective. The woman who gave out the number thought it was a little odd he hired someone, but says he was a nice guy so she let him keep her number.

But that's just it - this hired wingwoman is NOT the guy's friend - doesn't know him from Adam and yet... and yet - she's recommending him to another woman the wingwoman doesn't know either. Ted Bundy would have LOVED this. Need I say more? |
