In addition, check the weather report and learn whether or not the weather will be nice. If so, you might consider a picnic lunch at a local park; or, check and see if you can take a blanket or two and pillow, plus picnic basket to a nearby river, stream, pond, or, lake. KFC is a good to take along and put in the basket.
The third alternative is to check both at the college and around town to see if there are any Valentine dances. The school might be sponsoring a dance, so too, one or more dance studios. You may also find that there are Valentine dances at hotels, etc. Call around and also check the newspaper during the next two weeks.
Fourth, check with local restaurants to learn if they will be offering dinner specials. (Last night we ate at a local Italian restaurant and had all you can eat salad, pasta, and meatballs, with bread, for $9.99/ea.)
As an alternative, cook dinner yourself if you have access to a kitchen and dining room! The dinner need not be fancy; what is important is that it be personal and created by you.
If there is a Dollar Store or similar in your town, check for Valentine cards. I find very nice cards for under a dollar and sometimes two for a dollar.
If you are thinking about flowers, talk to one or more local florists or the floral department at a supermarket and see what you can get for not so much. Tell the florist what flowers you have in mind and ask how much it will cost to create a special arrangement for you. Inform them that you are a student and money is tight. I can pretty much guarantee that if she knows that you took the time to pick out the flowers and worked with the store on a unique arrangement that this will mean more to her than just rushing into a store and running out with the first bunch of flowers you pick up!
Combine one or more of these suggestions with EEK's.
I hope this is of help. Got questions?
