What you need to be asking/saying is "Is this (meaning arguing) going to solve the problem?" Rather than standing around yelling at each other, sit down, open a bottle of wine or Gatorade or whatever, pour out two glasses and see if you two can't SOLVE the problem.
No more arguing. Period. Just state your case, once, then shut up. Your SO then states his/her case, once, and shuts up. You may find you're actually arguing about nothing at all which happened to my husband and I once, not that we do much arguing.
The point is to SOLVE PROBLEMS not to 'prove' who's right/wrong.
