Call me old fashioned, quite frankly I wouldn't be communicating with anybody about "me" by texting. I want to hear a voice, the inflections, the silences, and all that go into making a conversation. I recommend texting for asking him to telephone you. You'll learn far more about him by listening than by reading.
What have you already asked him so we do not repeat what you've already talked about? * How old are you? * What is your sign? * Do you have any brothers? Sisters? Older, younger? * Are your parents divorced? * Do you have a job? Looking? For summer? * What interests do you enjoy? Elaborate. * Do you have a hobby? What? Elaborate. * What sports do you like watching? Participating in? Elaborate. * What do you want to be when you grow up? (Pun if any, intended) * Are you going to college? Where? To study (or are studying) what? Elaborate. * If he went to college or a trade school, what, where, and for what? Elaborate. * What kind of food do you like? Not? * Can you cook? * Do you have any pets? What? Name(s)? Elaborate. * Do you have/want children? How many? * What are your goals in life? Immediately? Next year? * Do you go to church? Do you believe in God? What religion? * What do you like doing when you first get home? * How many hours a day do you watch TV? Spend on the computer? * What TV programs do you like? Computer games? Elaborate. * Are you handy with tools? * What do you like about women? * What do you like about men? * What do you see first when you look at a woman? Do you like what you see? * How is our new president doing so far? Why? * What political party do you belong to? Do you vote the party line or for the best person, regardless? * What is your favorite color? What are you next four favorites? * What kind of car do you like? If you could afford any type, what would it be? * Do you want to live in an apartment or a house? How large? Elaborate. * Do you like your work/job? Tell me about it. Is it challenging? * How many hours do you work? Do you get much overtime? * Without looking, what color shoes am I wearing? * If I made you a pizza what would you like on it? If we went out for pizza would you order half and half so we could each have what we wanted on it? * Do you like chocolate? vanilla, strawberry, other? What would you put on it? * What color veggies do you like? * What is your middle name? Who were you named after? * Do you like dogs? Cats? What type(s)? * What did you dream about last night? * Do you like baths or showers? * What is your pet peeve? * If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? * If you could travel to outer space where would you go and why? * Do you like to dance? Will you take lessons? * What is your favorite type of music? Do you like....? All of the above will give you more information about him. All of the above are the seeds for a conversation best done in person or on the telephone. Texting? E-mail? Save those for nothing important unless it is to say "I love you".

Although this is the type of question I would love to be asked when recieving a text/email, but then I am just a bit anarchistic like that...
All good advice above. The best ones I have found are always those that are open ended and link to something that interests you. For example, if you really like indie music you might ask 'What do you think of the latest Killer's album?'. If you have a few of these prepared, then hopfully one will lead to a flowing conversation, and you will have plenty to talk about. |

What do you have against a telephone? The technology is so much more personal and after all isn't this what we all want?h

I agree, it is a lot better to talk in person. One of the main reasons is that it is so easy to miss the mood things presented in the medium of text, as I think has just (ironically) been proven

I think it's just the change within the age groups. I'm in the 18-20 range, and I can't stand talking on the phone. Almost all of my conversations take place through an IM service or through texting on the phone.
My mother can't stand texting or talking theough IM, and has to talk either in person or on the phone. Most likely just an age thing. |

I can do both but hearing the tone of a person's voice is worth using the telephone. Texting can be too inpersonal and can lead to misunderstandings - one reason why they have to add j/k onto the message and those little smileys to indicate mood.
Better just to chat over the phone and save the electrons! Saves money too, usually. |

I cannot see your expression because of the blindfold.
Txt mesgs tnd 2 b short n 2 th pt. Sweet, Idunno. To all who "finger" people like this, ya really oughta give the phone a try for all the reasons mentioned, above. Go back to basics and enrich your relationship(s). Try it, you'll like it.

Im 18, and personal i cannot stand talking on the phone. Im not a very open person and writing things out is easier for me. Yes i dont mind if im just asking a person something real quick but to hold a long conversation over the phone, kinda a pain. If i have a good relationship with the person and there is actually something to talk about its no big deal. And we have busy lives now-a-days and shooting a txt ever 5 min or so is easier than holding the phone to your ear blah blah blah. Idk, just my opinion.
