long distance dilema - advice please

I’m 17. I have been going out with my boyfriend for about 9 months now - and I really think I might be in love.

We live in Scotland and I’m going on a gap year to South Africa this August (something iv been planning since before we started going out)

I really don’t know what to do. When I’m over there I’v decided to have a year of celibacy just to be safe and not get distracted from work.

should I split up with my boyfriend? (something which I really wouldn’t want to do)

should we stay together?(which would be unfair for me to ask him to wait for me for a year)

can anyone think of any alternative?

please I need someone’s advice!!

thanks a lot

You are 17, going away for a year. Cut him loose, stay in touch, remain good friends, and see what's happening when you return. Life changes, so does what we want. In the future you may meet again or both move on to other's. Date!

So true, everyone begins with the best intentions of maintaining the relationship while apart. Over time, the physical and emotional distance becomes too much and interest sparks elsewhere. It's really doing a disservice to both!
