Male/female friends
Hey guys, I was wondering what your perspectives are on my situation. I'm a 22 year old guy, but I much prefer female company to male (on a platonic level).
Most weekends when I go out, I go with female friends and only occasionally with other guys. The thing is, I'm not your stereotypical guy who hangs out with mostly girls. I'm 100% heterosexual, have had lots of girlfriends and I don't hang out with girls to pretend to be their "friend" so I can try to turn them into relationships or whatever. I come from a working class background where "a man's a man", play sports, drink beer, listen to rock & rap and can actually be quite macho at times, and I don't have any stereotypical camp attributes whatsoever except maybe that I like fashion. But despite this, most of my good friends (and my 2 very best friends) are girls. I just like hanging out with them better.
Don't get me wrong, I have good male friends, especially in my sports teams. But I often find that when I go out with them at night, I get bored. We all stand around drinking beers, saying that "after this beer, we'll go and pick up some girls" and then nobody ever does, then the conversation dies etc and we go home. But when I go out with my girl friends, I always have a great time. We go round bars and have a good laugh and then go to a club where we dance all night. I have been asked if I'm gay loads of time because I walk into clubs with 4 or 5 good-looking girl friends, but I don't really care. People say girls are much bitchier etc and that can be true, but I get pissed off when guys start getting macho and try to compete with each other and look the best etc. I just can't be bothered with it. I also like the way girls talk about stuff, I find talking about relationships and gossip really fun, but I get bored when my guy friends start talking about soccer statistics or their jobs.
Are any of you guys like me? Or do any of you girls know anyone like me? It's not that I care about my situation, just interested really, because I've recently realised that I don't know any other straight guys who are the same. Is it normal to prefer the company of the opposite sex to your own to such an extent?? Or am I a bit weird LOL??
