Question My girlfriend and Prozac

Hey everyone, my girlfriend and I have been going steady for about 7 months, and we just started having sex a few weeks ago (would have been sooner except I had a little performance anxiety problem, finally got over it), and it was amazing. However, she takes anti-depressants (Prozac), and ever since she started taking it I've noticed a big decrease in her sex drive. It's very difficult to get her in the mood, and right now we do something (not even neccessarily sex, sometimes just foreplay) at a rate of about once every two weeks. This tends to frustrate me because I love her so much and I'm so attracted to her and when she finally gets into the mood she seems to be having a great time, but because of the previously mentioned Prozac she hardly ever initiates anything and sometimes gets irritated when I try to do so. We talked about it and she says that she would definately like to be horny more often, but we both agree that it's not worth sacrificing her happiness to do so. So our plan is to ask her doctor about other anti-depressants that hopefully have the same effect but can possibly restore her libido to what it once was, or close at least. I heard a lot of people have had success with Wellbutrin XL, so I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on other medications that may help, or anyone who's had a success story (for motivational purposes lol). Thx!

No one who is responsible will tell you what to use. The doctor know what your g/f is dealing with and what other drugs she may be using.

Most psychotropic drugs, such as Prozac, have some sexual side-effects in both men and women. She and the doctor should try to get the balance you speak of - controlling her depression without depressing her libido. That cannot be done online.

If I may humbly add, these drugs effect each individual differently so any storys shared would be useless anyway. Plus there is the matter of adjusting the doseage to get a balance. They do all have some sexual side effects in most cases. You mentioned Welbutrin. As I understand, it supposedly has fewer sexual side effects but it absolutely can not be used with alcohol. Actually alcohol use isn't recommended for anyone suffering from depression as it is a depressant itself. If you would like to know more about possible side effects, go to WEBMD.com and do a search for anti-depressants. You already stated that she was returning to the Doc. Good move but it never hurts to be well informed when talking to your doctor. The ones in this country seem to get most of thier prescription info from drug reps that took busssiness courses in college. Good luck.
