A difficult situation

Hello all.

I have a difficult situation. I was assaulted when I was 21 and haven't had any sexual encounters since. I was a virgin before the assault. I had played around, but hadn't had full intercourse. In the subsequent years, I've fooled around a bit, but it hasn't culminated in sex. I am now 27 years old.

I have met a very sweet man who is younger than me (23) yet is very mature. We're starting to date a bit now, and he is very interested in being intimate, both emotionally and physically. I am scared he'll reject me, and I'm a bit nervous about intercourse, but I want to put the past behind me.

Any ideas?

Simone

Does he know that you were assaulted? If not, I would say you should let him know. If he cares about you, then he won't reject you because of it, and understanding what happened should make things easier for you. And if he does reject you, then that means he doesn't care for you, and is not worth it.

Get professional counseling for the assault as even if you think you're over it - you aren't and any intimate relationships will bring the feelings back. As for telling him, you could - but the counseling should come first.
