When I was a young'n some guys actually wore their jockstraps to school dances to avoid the problem of poking their partner with their desire. We thought it was respectful, but there was a little self-preservation involved.

Particularly if you danced with "what's her name" because she had this peverse habit of rubbing up against you in suggestive ways... then when the dance ended she'd walk away and leave you standing in the middle of the dance floor looking a bit foolish while everyone wondered, "What is he pointing at?!!"
