Getting into the dating scene

Ok, I am currently a 19 year old guy who has found himself in what has developed into a WIDE open relationship. The girl i've considered a girlfriend for a year, but at the moment don't really know what to consider her, has been dating around, and is currently trying to encourage me to date around as well. Where, considering i'm practically a single, available guy still under the drinking age, can i best look to find a girl of about my age that i might meet and have the possibility of dating? I do not want to use the internet, as i have only had bad experiences.
Please also consider that i am a relatively shy person, which is why i don't already know how to get started.

Are you in school? *I would think school is a good place to meet other people. *Also, try not to be so shy. *It doesn't help. *Have more confidence in yourself, go out with your friends without the intention of meeting someone, and go out and do things that you enjoy and you may come across someone. *When you're not looking for someone you end up finding them. *I truely believe this. I don't think clubs and bars are good places to meet people because most people there are looking for a quick hook up.

Do things that you like to do. *Like volleyball, join a pick-up league, and meet new friends there. *Running, biking, anything. *Chances are if you like it someone else does too, and there is a group of people doing that exact thing.

*Best part is that if you join a group with a common interest you already have a great way to break the ice and have something to talk about with all the new gals you meet.

*I have found that cultural events are good places to meet nice, interesting people. *Museums, art galleries, outside concerts, plays...ect. *These places are much better than bars and clubs as they give you something to talk about. *The exhibit at the gallery, or the band playing; great ways to break the ice and meet new people.
