If you read around so well, then you noted that many men are position-sensitive when it comes to reaching climax. Some do better on top; some, on bottom.
The orgasm, in addition to ejaculation, includes a rapid relaxation of muscles that have been held very tense. If holding yourself on top is tensing many of these muscles, it can trigger orgasm; others are more set off by being more relaxed.

A lot depends upon being able to recognize when you are about to climax, and, a lot depends upon being able to stop! and not just saying "oh well" and going on to finish because it feels so good. The Squeeze technique works well. Clamping the shaft at the top just behind the Corona Rim works as does applying pressure to the base of the shaft. Either you or your partner should squeeze as tightly as possible and then do not move the shaft at all.
Kegel squeezing works also, although, not for everybody. I am in favor of making the association between impending orgasms and those sensations that immediately precede them then pausing and sliding back down your arousal curve until the sense of urgency subsides. This done, you can continue on, repeating if need be.
So, why so many solutions, different ways for different people as well as situations. Find one or two that work and then master them. I find that the squeeze technique works well in the here and now--immediately if not sooner, while the others work better a little earlier when you have a bit more time.

Seconds to many minutes. The answer varies based upon several factors, like:
* his ability to control his arousal
* her ability to circumvent his ability
* their available time for fun and games
Now, the real answer is that you can last as long as you desire given your ability to use certain tools to control how fast your arousal build, and, how well you are at modulating that build up.
