i have been with my boyfriend for 3 years and having sex for about 1... but when reading on your site the effectiveness of a condom is only around 80 % it really scares me.i thought i was always being extremly safe but now i dont feel so confident. i was always under the impression that they were somewhere in the 99% area of effectiveness. i read about the control methods dealing with recognizing your cycle and what not so i was just wondering if you could give me tips on how to practice these methods so i can feel more confident about not getting pregnant

condoms and effectiveness

if u have sex towards your next period or just after it is about 99% unlikely to get preg if also using a condom as you are not ovulating..
from what i understand there are only about 4 days a girl can get pregnant in and these days are the days of ovulation.
so having sex just before a next period (2 days) or jus after (up to 7 days) should be ok if also using a condom.
Yea but its hard to judge b/c a girl might ovulate w/in a certain few days span but sperm can also live inside the body for up to 4-5 days I think. So even if you had sex on one of your "safe" days... but ovulated 3 days later.. there is the chance a sperm is still hanging around.
I posted an answer in the other thread like this one =\
alright also when their is discharge is that a sign of ovulation.. i think i might have read that somwhere.
ok so me and my gf were doing it this morning and my conrom broke...i didnt cum but there is always that pre cum that comes from the penis i was just wondering if that mattered or not
I guess it doesn't matter cuz you won't be the one getting pregnant..OF COURSE IT MATTERS...wassa-da-matter wit choo !!
yea i didnt cum tho

Perfectly said.
Cue up the ol' broken record: every single time you have sex with a person of the opposite gender, there is a chance that the girl involved WILL GET PREGNANT.
If you do not know that, PLEASE do not have sex.
yes yes but... if you dont cum then how would she?
There are sperm in the pre-ejaculatory fluids you secrete and release during any sort of intercourse. You might even notice some fluid after simply having an erection. That fluid often contains sperm.
There is absolutely no way to guarentee that you woln't get a girl pregnant, but you should always use a physical barrier, preferably a condom. If you want to use multiple forms of birth control together (i.e. a condom and the pill), more power to you.
ok are there any over the counter birth control pills you could take that u know of? so i could tell her to do it
ok are there any over the counter birth control pills you could take that u know of? so i could tell her to do it
No.... BC pills are by prescription only... but she can get them from a local health clinic or Planned Parenthood
are there any pills that you could get over the counter, that u know of??
Don't "tell her" to take a pill. As you two are having sex together, it's also your duty to decide what form(s) of protection you'll be using. In addition to the two forms I listed earlier, spermicides are also very effective when combined with a physical barrier (such as a condom).
www.google.com
Look up "birth control methods" and look around this site for descriptions of various forms of birth control. Seriously though, if you don't know about birth control and the risks of having sex, you shouldn't be having sex in the first place. Too many people have destroyed their lives through careless and unprotected sex.
wut sort of health clinic is that?
i was using a condom...and am

And, as you've seen, condoms are not 100% effective. Think like an engineer: double, even triple redundancy is a good thing.
You might also want to talk to your doctor about different forms of birth control, the pros and cons of each form, and any possible side effects. Doctors are good for this because they know all the specifics, but don't live with you like parents do ;)
yea im kind of worried right now tho cuz im looking for something i could get one of those morning after pills
Here's a site that contains a lot of good information about EC (emergency contraception). I know that in the US, the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Washington have passed laws in March of 2006 allowing EC to be sold over-the-counter in pharmacies. That being said, I've never had any reason to buy them and therefore do not know anything about availability in the other 42 states. Similarly, I do not know of any laws regarding the distribution of EC in countries besides the US. Try calling a local pharmacy to see if they carry and can distribute EC without a prescription. Again, talking to a doctor is never a bad idea.
Good luck.
yeah dude i found one in my town thanks ull been both helpful
