Condom Brand Reliability

Howdy folks. I recently (yesterday) bought some interesting looking condoms for my boyfriend and I to try out. (They have ribs for added stimulation-- heh heh heh) He asked what brand they were, and was discouraged when I told him they are by Trojan. He has heard that Trojan is unreliable. Is this true? Does anyone here have any knowledge about the reliability levels of different brands of condoms? My boyfriend and I have been having sex for only a couple of months now, so we don't know too much about condoms yet. We just want to be safe.

So I guess in addition to answering my question about Trojan in particular, this thread could be used for people to post which brands they trust most and suggest them to other members.

Muchas gracias!

i believe that if the brand is kitemarked it is safe 2 use as has been through the proper testing. x

hmmm if u want my advice i bought trojans a few times and tested them and they were fine. they were a bit uncomfortable tho at first cuz i needed to get used to the texture but use them they are fine

Now doesn't it just make sense that if there was a problem they would be recalled, law suits would be in the news, and stores would have none on their shelves?

The number one brand in condom HAS to be reliable. My friend did have a trojan condom break on him, but that was probably due to poor lubrication. Here is a little link to help you feel more comfortable with condoms strength.

The major brands are all quite reliable. Let me emphasize that vaginal spermicide (jelly, film, foam, suppository) should be used to significantly improve protection from pregnancy.

LOL Thanks for the link. Not only was that article very reassuring, but the additional articles listed at the bottom are highly amusing.

spermicide

i have heard that spermicide in condom use is not only uneffective, but also can be somewhat hazardous. where it may be useful in terms of a diaphram, with just a condom there is 1) not enough spermicide to kill enough of the semen to prevent pregnancy 2) can actually irritate the vaginal tissue, which can potentially cause slight bleeding which can be more difficult to deal with for people with HIV/AIDS (this second one pertains more so to the diaphram). this is just what i have heard however and i have not really looked into it further, so i may be completely wrong. but i hope it may be at least somewhat educating if it is true.

I've never had a problem with Trojans.
