How Long?

My girlfriend called me tonight and told me that she is late...
My question is, how long can this last? we dont know if it's something to be concerned about, or if it's just because of stress. I would like to know how long we should wait before getting tested.

A woman's cycle is so personal that predicting how late she "can" be is just a shot in the dark. My wife is so inconsistent that being late by a day or two wouldn't even raise a flag. I had a girlfriend that so regular that when she was late by a couple of hours ONCE and she was freaking out.

If your a person that can put it out of your mind then the wait and see method might be alright. Let's face facts, nothing is going to change. She's either pregnant or she's not. If you're like me that worries to the extreme, then buy the home test and find out. They are pretty accurate and can put your mind to rest. Make sure you follow the directions carefully because as my wife's doctor told me, you can't get a false positive, but you can get a false negative if you don't follow the directions.

"This" can last nine months if she is pregnant. When did you have sex? What form of contraception do you use? How late is she?

How about testing right now? Get two tests of different brands and use them at least twelve hours apart following the instructions exactly.

Contrary to Buck's post, tests frequently yield false positives if not read as the directions say.

If she was due on the 25th and you had sex three weeks ago (8th), you were at about the usual time of ovulation. You do not mention contraception. Hmmm.

The test, dammit, today.

Really? She said that there is little to no chance of a false positive because if she's not pregnant then the hormones just aren't there. I hate my wife's doctor, but she just keeps going back because she's one of the only females available.

I do not want to affect your relationship with a local doctor. "Little to no chance" is mostly accurate but if you do not read the color when the instructions say, a positive will result. Most tests will turn positive if left in the urine too long - or just sitting soaked.

The hormones are there but not in enough concentration to trip the test in the time allotted if not pregnant.

When my wife and I went into her after getting pregnant with our first child. After telling her that my wife had a positive home test she had the ball rolling well before we ever got the results of their test. She said "Well then your pregnant" when responding to the home test information. I glad she wasn't wrong because we were so excited after she told us they are "99%+ accurate on positives". I can't imagine the devastation my wife would of felt if she was wrong. The funnier thing was when the nurse finally popped her head in and said "it's positive" the doctor responded "I know". She's either arrogant or stupid.
