anonymous. is on a distinguished road
Unhappy lost my virginity, used condoms, missed my period...help?

about a month ago, my boyfriend and i had sex for the first time, we lost our virginities to each other. we used a condom and afterwards, we checked for leaks and there were none. i was due for my period for this month last week and have still yet to recieve it. i don't think my cycle is switching times, as it just did last month. does first time sex cause periods to switch times, be late, or skip without the girl being pregnant?

Welcome to the SI101 Board and its Forums. I hope you enjoy participating. I just finished posting a response to someone else about possibly being pregnant, please read my reply.

Menstrual cycles can be very irregular with teenagers. As for the likely specifics, please wait for one of the women to comment. Look for Brandye, EEK, or Demonbuttercup to comment later.

Brandye is a jewel in the rough
Doc is quite right about teenagers and irregular cycles. It is also correct that condoms are about 85% effective. That is why we recommend vaginal spermicide in you before the condom covered penis is in you.

Most condom failures are not a result of breakage or leakage but because of sperm swimming around the open end. It is distinctly possible that your cycle is moving around; it is distinctly possible that you are pregnant. Read the citation link Doc has posted and follow the instructions on the home pregnancy test.

If you are going to be sexually active - get on the Pill. Taking steps to prevent pregnancy is your job.

Condoms are used not to prevent pregnancy but to prevent the tranmission of disease. Wearing one is his responsibility.

If either of you is unwilling to do what is necessary, then you should not be having sex. You're not adult enough to engage in adult play.

The reason you're feeling so anxious now is because you did not do your part before you engaged in sex. You did not get your gyne exam, you did not learn enough about your body, and sex, and how everything works. You just went with it. Face it, something this important and you spent less time preparing for it than you did picking out the clothes you want wear tomorrow.

Don't do that again. This is your body and your life - take control of it.
