Pregnancy and Menstruation Myth

This may or may not be the correct forum for asking these questions, but after reading various threads on the forum here, I couldn't find the answer I'm looking for.

Can a woman get pregnant while she is having her period?

I make it a point to practice safe sex, if I don't have a condom, then I consider her vagina a no man's land.(For the record, the pill has been discussed, and she can't find one that doesn't make her feel like a train wreck.) But, knowledge is power, and luck favors the prepared. I'd rather know and not guess, than guess and not know. Part of me thinks that since she's expelling the egg/uteral lining, pregnancy isn't possible, and the other part says find out and not be stupid.

I appologize for my lack of intimate knowledge concerning a woman's menses. Beyond the anatomy and functions involved, my knowledge doesn't extend beyond knowing when her cycle is, and the ability to judge the speed of a thrown object in relation to how quickly I can duck.

Brandye is a jewel in the rough
Any time a penis is in a vagina pregnancy is possible. While the charts you look at show that the lowest likelihood is during her period, it is still possible. If a woman is perfectly regular, there is a low likelihood of pregnancy during her period. If she has erratic periods, then her ovulation is also erratic.

If pregnancy is more than an inconvenience, protection is needed during her period.

In order to become pregnant, an egg must be released from the ovaries, which we know as ovulation. The sperm has to swim its way “upstream” and find the egg and then have enough energy left to fertilize the egg. Since it is possible for ovulation to occur during a woman’s monthly period, it is perfectly possible for a woman to get pregnant while she has her period.
