Actually the amount of semen in an ejaculation is taken into account by specialists who help couples who are having trouble trying to conceive.
Artichokes and asparagus are known to stimulate semen production. Also it is important to drink enough water on a daily basis. Some men naturally have more semen, some naturally have less. More or less does not mean your wife will or won't get pregnant, but as I said, the fertility experts take it into consideration. If you ejaculate on a daily basis you will most likely discover a lower quantity of semen in your ejaculate than if you ejaculate less frequently. As Sera pointed out sperm count is also important, as is the mobility of the sperm cells and the ratio of the kind of sperm cells, as it is now believed that different sperm cells have different functions; not all of them are intended for fertilization. Did a doctor order your semen sample? Here I agree again with Sera. Consult your wife's physician on this. |

The typical ejaculation is just under 5ml (1Tsp) of semen containing up to 400 million sperm.
When couples are seeking pregnancy we recommend sex every other day from the end of her period to the neginning of the next. This insures that there are viable sperm in her reproductive tract whenever ovulation occurs and it allows him to recover and regnerate sufficient sperm between ejaculations. As sera points out, she should be on her back with hips raised on a pillow, remaining this way for twenty minutes to a half hour after ejaculation. This poos the semen in the ideal spot to allow sperm into the uterus. About 85% oc couples having regular sex will become pregnant within a year. Doctors do not begin to become concerned about fertility until then. There are no recognized foods or medications to increase the sperm count (more important than semen quantity) on a daily basis. If you go beyond with a fertility clinic, there will be recommendations.

My experience is when I was ttc my baby in 02 my hubby and I did it EVERYDAY straight, I got pregnant that month but we had a loss but we tried again 3 months after i healed up and because it worked the first time I decided to do it the 2nd time with having sex everyday but we had a nasty fight on the 19th and didnt do the deed (day I ovulated) and I still ended up pregnant that month.
I consulted my dr because of my loss AND because I was so desperate to get pregnant again and I was told the following. THEY do say tho that u should do it every other day during TTC (trying to conceive) every day will lower your count and I was told esp after 30. After doing the deed tell her to put her butt in the air on pillows for at least 30 mins (thats what I was told, I didn't do this tho) and it gives an extra chance of concieving! I was told the male should wear boxes (not briefs) and that u shouldn't drink coffee and someone I know was told by her RE to drink an energy drink right before having sex...I was also told Healthy sperm can live up to 4 days in the vagina. I also consulted my dr last year because I was thinking about trying for another and we were HERE and there but nothing happened, I was alittle surprised with my youngest we didn't have a problem but my dr said I am 30 now and that could make a difference. We stopped ttc for a couple of year. I wish you the best!! I was told after 6 months if u can't concieve that u should talk to the dr. Last edited by Danzgrl4eva; 12-03-2008 at 09:11 AM.. |

Hey sera, I know I am not an MD or any, but doesnt maca help with semen quantity? I mean granted its not the quantity but the quality, although if the OP is looking to boost his amount to calm his nerves over his pregnancy, couldnt he take that since it is natual and can help with everything?

This would be another good time for an herbalist or naturopath to be around. From a medical standpoint, maca is considered a healthy vegetable and there have been limited studies finding that eating maca regularly has salutary effects on sexual functioning of both men and women. There are no studies I can find on using the refined plant in extract or powdered form. Your line "can help with anything" is how a few websites present their products. The problem with many supplements is that they are of unknown strength and unknown origin. And unknown efficacy.
I guess if maca is available at his local supermarket, eating several servings a week could not hurt. I would not take it as a supplement without more knowledge than I have.

Lol sorry i miss spoke. By everything I meant just that it can help with him wanting more ejaculate. Since he is posting about it, I figured he may be a bit troubled, and could help him with his worries.
I have been taking maca men from gnc for about 2 weeks, and I have noticed changes in not only quantity, but I notice everything feels differently. (Orgasm and sensitivity wise). From personal research, it is a natural aphrodisiac and can help with penial blood flow and increase semen production. Than again I am only 19, but I have noticed a difference while taking it and while NOT taking it

Sperm count is significant. Why? You can have lots of semen; however, if the count is low, it makes it more difficult to conceive. It's the sperm which matter.
This is where the infertility specialist come in handy & they are considered after nearly one year without conception. Alternate days, not daily, is recommended. If you are going for many months with out a conception most gyns will begin a work up earlier...sperm count for him & histogram for her. If a FOOD can perhaps be beneficial; it's worth a try but I agree w/Brandye the content of powders or supplements cannot be measured. Try the raising the butt, alternate days and watch for ovulation. If she has a regular cycle & ovulation is consistent you have a good chance of a positive outcome. If not ask about basilar body temps & vaginal mucous changes to figure it out!
