Nicotin Patch while pregnant

I have a friend that is 6 months pregnant and wants to quit smoking. She only smokes one a day. Does any one know of a safe way to stop. Gum, patch, pill?

If she only smokes one a day, there is very little nicotine getting to the foetus. The nicotine from gum and the patch would actually be greater and do more harm to the foetus than one cigarette. The drugs I am aware that do not use nicotine have been adapted from other uses and have not been studied in pregnant women. I would recommend not using any of the pills while pregnant.

It is rare for me not to ping on someone for smoking but ......

If she is honest with the "one a day" any of the treatments would be worse. She could just stop that one and her lungs would be happier.

Thanks. I have been talking to a couple of people who smoked when they were pregnant and they said "my kids are just fine and I smoked 3 or more a day!"

Except they all have asthma and are on antibiotics all of the time. Thats all!

Who told you this one? About 40 years ago smoking & pregnancy was acceptable, many of us were born normally, lack health issues, and really DID develop at an age appropriate level.
