Even without a penis, I see some possible improvements. Why not a condom instead of the plastic bag? Or, now that the artificial vagina is built, support it somehow, as with sofa cushions, and you actual do the thrusting.
To answer your question, I really do not know what the spasming is. Somehow you are not getting as intensely stimulated as with your hand. Perhaps if your penis moves instead of the artificial vagina, it will be more intense. This latter I surmise from men saying that a female condom, which does not move with the penis, gives them a more realistic feeling than a condom that moves with them

Using a condom won't work. The purpose of using a plastic Zip lock type bag is so the penis can slip and slide in and out. (Cut an opening along the bottom of one side so your penis can be inserted. Lubricate you and the lower inside portion of the bag.)
The foam seems to be a substitute for the hand towel I suggest.
I do agree that placing the device with you in it between a couple of pillows, or, in between mattress and springs or a seat cushion works best. Use the pillows and assume the Missionary position and stroke away!
