Clitoris and Uncircumsized Penis: Alike or not?

This has been something I have been meaning to post for about a month. Also feel free to correct me at any point.

Both an uncircumsized penis and the clitoris are covered by a layer of skin (foreskin and clitoral hood),

both indicate arousal (penis gets erect and the clitoris enlarges),

both are extremely sensitive during arousal (while I cannot speak for the ladies, I can speak with a great deal of confidence regarding the uncircumsized penis, it can hurt people)

and both come in all sizes.

Is it a fair comparison or not? I know very little about the clit so I am going by my knowledge that I know.

Have you done any research?

This is partially correct. The foreskin tightly covers the top of the shaft, glans, and sometimes extends out in front. The hood of the clitoris is just a "hood" and does not tightly wrap around the tip of the clitoris.

Both become engorged with blood, both become erect; however because the shaft of the clitoris is buried beneath the skin, it and an erection can only be felt.

Please clarify what you mean by "it can hurt people"?

Although the clitoris is smaller than the penis, it is in fact vastly more sensitive and reactive. Why? Depending upon which research paper you read, the tip either has as many nerve endings as found in the glans, or, many more. Your uncircumcised penis is nearly as sensitive, although not quite because the nerve endings are spread out over a wider surface area.

Here is another difference between genders: Men look for a place to have sex, women look for a reason. Please read the articles listed in the Index found a the top of the main screen.

They are similar and in fact come from the same tissues so one can say that a penis is an enlarged clitoris since all fetuses begin as female.

I too wonder this. I always assumed that the penis was just a more developed clitoris. I mean I have seen the side effects of androgenic steroid use in females, and one side effect (especially in people who use testosteron creams) is an enlarged clitoris that looks like a miniature penis (sans urethra and testcles of course.).

Hopefully brandye will soon clear this up. Even though I believe EEK answered the question.

Let us get a bit more scientific about it because the perceived, and real, similarities go as far as using "prepuce" as the real name for both the foreskin and clitoral hood.

I have posted a similar response but here it is again: All zygotes are initially female. It takes four or five days for the Y chromosomes to start its trick. Much is determined in those few days that is later more specified as the foetus develops. We will all end up with gonads - ovaries for women, tested for men. Useless nipples for men and functional breasts on women. A different mix of hormones will kick in later in the pregnancy. As those hormones kick in, the clitoris that all begin with will grow in male foetus but will develop "normally" in women; the gonads will descend into the scrotum in males but remain in the abdomen of females and the "scrotal sac" will form the vulva.

The prepuce will grow over the clitoris (as usually referred to) and form to cover the glans penis. We now even believe (mostly) that the Skene's Glands (periurethral glands) are analogous to the man's prostate but serve no biologic purpose but, perhaps, are the notorious G-Spot that so many rave about. Doc posted a tricky question here a year or so ago about the length of the clitoris. Many believe that the clitoris is simply the equivalent of the glans penis attached to two muscles that run down either side of the labia and rejoin at the perineum making it the size of a flaccid penis or smaller erect penis.

So, your thinking is quite correct. Almost everything either of us has has an analogy in the other gender. The uterus and Glands of Bartholin are exceptions. The first of these for the obvious reason and the other probably originally gave out a scent that attracted males. Where so many go wrong is identifying the clitoris as an undeveloped penis; actually, the penis is an overdeveloped clitoris. We ALL begin as female; only the fortunate remain so!

To follow all this check out diagrams on this site or put "reproductive tract female" in google and you will get diagrams, photos and descriptions.
