Okay, so this is slightly embarassing coming from someone like me, but the internet seems to be lacking in information lately. For the past three weeks my clit has been hurting, and pretty badly at that. Mostly only when touched though. I cant seem to get a clear answer, but this does not seem normal. I've had some problems in that area before, so It has me sort of worried. My question is if anyone has this problem too, or has had it, or knows off the top of their head what it could be? Thanks!

Clit - It hurts?

This is what I found as the most common cause of clitoral pain:
"Smegma is a very real substance; to maintain good vaginal health, you need to keep it from accumulating. Glands on the inner surface of the clitoral hood secrete sebum, an oily substance that lubricates the clitoral glans. When this secretion builds up, it becomes smegma, a thick white discharge with a cottage-cheese appearance. If the smegma isn't washed away on a regular bases, it can accumulate and dry out, forming small hard kernels under the clitoral hood. The resulting irritation can be painful and may cause adhesions to form between the glans and hood. Preventing these adhesions is very simple: keep your vagina squeaky clean."
It's recommended to see your Gyn doc.
Well, not your vagina but your pudenda. We women need to cleanse ourselves throughly at least twice a day. I love my bidet.
Use warm water, mild soap and make certain you rinse well. Smegma forms under the foreskin in men and under the clitoral hood in women. Generally, any of the cheesy stuff that can be found inside the outer lips is referred to as smegma. This needs to be washed. Not a douche, a good washing.
As much as I try to keep clean, after a long bike ride or other activity I need to freshen up.

I was searching to see if there was a previous thread and this was the closest I found so I decided to continue on it....
Just wondering if there's any particular right and wrong way to wash your parts. My gynae gave me a special soap (triderm?) specifically to use as I was getting a few infections...she said it can help prevent. Was just wondering if maybe there's some places you're not meant to wash with soap or sthing coz I've heard that soap can also cause infections
I basically usually just put some (liquid) soap on my fingers and just rub around and in between the outer folds... nothing inside. And rinse well.
liquid hand soap? most liquid soaps tend to be antibacterial.
antibacterial soaps are what can cause infections.
We Europeans are generally against anti-bacterial soap because all it really does is make bacteria resistant to anti-bacterials. Research has shown, for instance, that forty seconds of hand washing with anti-bacterial soap and with plain soap leaves exactly the same number of bacteria colonies on the hands. This is one of the greates differences between European and American medicine. We use many less anti-bacterial prescriptions and the soap is not generally available.
That said, the clear liquid sopas are most easily rinsed from the skin leaving no residue. Therefore, we recommend the use of these with a soft face cloth (or similar; we generally do not use face cloths but they are catching on in UK and Germany), thoroughly washing among the folds. The a very good rinse. The fountain bidet often found in Europe is great for this. Otherwise, cup your hands to catch the shower water and make certain you well rinsed.
My girl parts are thoroughly cleansed (shower or bidet) at least twice a day and sometimes more when riding my bike or during my period.
Hmmm...ok thanks for that info.
P.S. I'm European also :) Unfortunately though bidets aren't used that much anymore here....mostly due to the fact that there is lack of space for them in bathrooms due to size restrictions!
Never thought to use a face cloth down there. Will give it a try.

Oh and I didnt mean hand soap. What I use is soap for sensitive skin....my gynae said its a kind of vaginal soap wash... in fact if used on your skin example it doesnt give that silky feeling but rather a dry feeling instead.
sensitive soap should be ok...it's just that i've never seen a liquid soap that wasn't harsh, antibacterial soap...i guess its an American thing? lol
