I recently (couple of weeks ago) had a circumcision performed (it was elective) and the doctor used dissolveable stitches.
How long should it take for the stitches to dissolve completely? Also, my doctor gave me a "no sex" order for four to six weeks. I can' understand the reasons why (because sex might caught the stitches to come out or open the wound) but I guess what I'm asking is - how long should it take for the stitches to come out completely by themselves?
Thanks,
Tony Trout

Give it a good month. If you have a ring scab, you may find that it will come off on its own and the stitches will be gone, also. Keep to the six week plan, regardless.

Thanks, Doc, i appreciate the advice. The stitches have actually began coming out but I will definitely stick to the six week plan, although my urologist only told me to abstain for four weeks.
The stitches will not "come out." They will be mostly dissolved by the body with, perhaps, some stubble just dropping off. There are stitches with different resolution periods. Could be anywhere from a fortnight to six weeks.

Thanks for the info, Brandye. ;)
UPDATE:
All of the stitches are now gone/dissolved.
Now, I know I can't have actual penetrative sex for about a month after the procedure (the first one was performed on August 2, 2010 and then I had to go back into the hospital the following Sunday to have a "bleeder" repaired).
My question is:
Since all (I checked and there are no stitches to be seen) stitches are gone, even though I can't have full penetrative sex, is it ok to masturbate??
BTW, I absolutely do not regret having this procedure/operation/surgery done! I love my new penis!! :D:D:D:D
Brandye, please feel free to call me on this; however, it would seem logical that as long as you stimulate only the glans, frenulum, and base of the shaft you will be OK. Stay clear of the top portion of the shaft and let this area remain calm and untouched.
As for masturbating, why not test your mental prowess and test how long you can hold out before giving in. The longer you wait, the better. If/when tension builds too much, you will probably experience a nocturnal emission.
Male masturbation usually involves more vigourous rubbing than it would get inside a woman. If the doc says no vagina, he also means no stimulation of the penis. The stitches are gone - that is good; the scar tissue is still too thin to hold against friction. If it tears, then six more weeks and an uglier scar.

Why didn't you ask your doctor this? My guess is "no" but I'm not a doctor and not qualified to give you a real answer.
I know one thing for sure...it took me a YEAR to walk after my circumcision!!:p
Ok, it's been since August 8, 2010 since I've had the surgery. Should i be all 'good to go' now?
Who's your doctor?
It is unethical to diagnose over the telephone, radio, or internet.
Your doctor should have given you guidelines and seen you as a follow-up. If you are not ready now, you will require some additional adjustments.

Brandye & DD2,
I saw my doctor who performed the surgery on August 17, 2010 and he said that everything at the time was healing just fine. I haven't had any problems and he, himself, asked me when I wanted to come back and I told him I would come back only as needed (which was probably not a smart move on my part).
I'll call him and schedule another follow-up appointment. I'll keep you both posted.
Do either of you use any ikind of instant messenger? I could update you both that way instead of here.
