Breast milk ice cream goes on sale at London restaurant

A new London ice cream parlour is serving up a breast milk ice cream alongside a range of unusual new flavours. The concoction, dubbed the Baby Gaga, will be available from Friday 25th February at the Icecreamists restaurant in Covent Garden. The recipe blends breast milk with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest.

Founder, Matt O'Connor is confident his take on the miracle of motherhood - priced at a cool £14 - will go down a treat. He said, "The Baby Gaga tastes creamy and rich. No-one's done anything interesting with ice cream in the last hundred years ... Some people will hear about it and go, 'yuck' - but actually it's pure, organic, free-range and totally natural. I had a Baby Gaga just this morning and I feel great."

Each donor receives £15 for every ten ounces of milk extracted by breast pumps. And to maintain the highest standards, health checks for the lactating women are the same used by hospitals to screen blood donors.

SI101 says, "Ummmm ... we just checked our calendar and April Fool's is still a month away! Did he really say 'Free Range'? What, no eggs??"

Colostrum...

It'd be interesting to learn how the girls get milked.

Maybe everyone is feeling so good after one of these concoctions because they are milking the girls late in pregnancy or early after childbirth to ensure they get the beestings bisnings in the mix. Colostrum is powerful stuff. I'd like to get me some.

That sounds interesting...

To not have any indecent thought that would give an obvious boner while tasting it will be the challenge.

LOL! ;):):D
And not that original... It was done by a restaurant in Switzerland years ago (and allegedly banned)
Plus in 2008: [url=http://www.wptz.com/health/17539127/detail.html]PETA urged Ben & Jerry's to use human milk instead of Cow's

Banned? Why? I think it's something wonderful to do... Unless over-milking is possible and has bad impacts on the woman's health.

I know myself, and I know it would happen, I'd laugh if I'd get a boner just because I'm eating ice cream!

think ill just stick to normal mint chocolate chip!

Suit yourself, I'm still intrigued with the taste it may have...

That would be: richly fatty and rather sweet.

What I'd be worried about when there is money in return for breastmilk: that the baby won't get (enough of) it, because mom's poor and needs the money. A bit like those mins in the old days... I can already see the unions coming up with a whole new set of rules for labor ;) And those damned human traffickers will probably plan an evil scheme too... Perhaps that should become Ben&Jerry's newest charity; providing the moms with good and healthy nutrients, so that they'll provide good breastmilk enough for two (one for Baby Ben and one for Company Jerry, LOL!).

WAIT A MINUTE; Barely18Guy, I think I've just found out what your TRUE reason is to want to move to England! ;) :) :D

anther way to earn lol

I think I'm going to be ill.

LOL. I know right. Besides, where are they going to find that much breast milk to support a ice cream parlor anyway?

We already have enough going on in the world to make women seem "less than human" and this "turning women into cows" is not going to help.

Besides which if cow milk is for baby cows only, according to PETA, the human milk is for baby humans ONLY.

PETA has been proven to be filled with emotionally immature people who do not understand the first thing about the animals they proport to be rescuing. Dairy cattle simply cannot exist in the wild and they produce far more milk than any calf could drink.

On top of all of that - human milk ice cream is CREEPY.

Well, I've just heard on the radio that the Authority on foods has (at least temporarily) banned the icecream to investigate it on possible risk for health (just like they did in Switserland).

Also: Lady Gaga has threatened to sue the company for misusing her name and her fame(monster;)) She called the product "sickening". How typical for someone who wears a dress of rotting meat and wants to launch a perfume with semen and blood as ingredients. No; someone's worried about the "green" she might be missing out on, me thinks! Maybe someone with the rights on the song "Radio Gaga" would like to pay her a visit. Or someone who'd like to represent every baby that has said "gaga" as part of their primary vocabulary before her stagename was registered!

Anyways; nice trick, done before, over again now.

Half the world considers us crazy for drinking (cattle)milk anyways... O, and those cows didn't ask to be manipulated to this extend by humans. But hey, they're here now and definitely no returning to any wild for them! Since we've created them, I'd say we better take good care of them. It's the reason why I only buy real biological milk; cows that have comfortable stables with hay and get to walk outside all day. They eat what a cow is supposed to eat: grass. No hormone-enriched and carnivorous diet for them, equals good milk for me! Plus; any milk-lover can taste the difference! :)

I don’t really think it is! Unless the women are being fed organic food and are being carefully monitored for what other things are in their environment including medications!

Beef cattle are another story entirely. The problem is it takes land to feed them as foragers and a sewage system capable of handling the load if you don't.

There are three 'types' of beef production in the US:

the big 'factory' producers using feedlots

breeders who sell to finishing farms who use both pasture and grain then slaughter and sell locally No breeding is done so no bull is kept

artizan farms who breed, pasture raise with minimal grain and then slaughter and sell locally while maintaining a small breeding herd with a bull kept

Most family farms are either of the last two types esp here in the eastern US.

BTW, I'm ancient and I still drink milk! I am firmly convinced that it does me good. Esp with chocolate in it!!

i have read that some women are pumping breast milk for their fathers to help their immune system while they combat cancer...

As a lactating mama I'm sure the women use hospital grade breast pumps. Breast milk tastes like warm milk mixed with a little bit of honey. It's quite tasty!

You still run the risk of making yourself a commodity.
