In the "old days" when contraception did not affect the endocrine system, there was a simple answer: keep using your diaphragm until the periods are all finished, usually about a year with none. Today, the more common methods, IUD or hormone, affect the endocrine system or stir up the interior of the uterus. The hormones are quite similar to hormone replacement therapy used with strong menopausal symptoms. So, care must be taken.
Discuss this in detail with your gyn doctor. Your medical history, and family medical history, can have an effect on the decision on what to use. No way we can do the tests and exam and ask all the questions on the net. If you are a smoker, hormones are out at 43; if not, talk to the doctor.
