Any of the hormonal approaches can affect depression. Depo is the worst; the ring places the least amount og hormone in your system. With depo, you are stuck for a while; with the ring you can stop using it whenever you wish.
It is well worth a try.

Please excuse this guy for jumping into a purely female-type thread, but one burning question for those that think about or do use it...
I've seen the commercials and one thing that always jumps out is the rapid fire disclaimer at the end OMG!&WTF! di you catch the possible side effects? Aren't any you all in the least worried?...I'd worry myself sick for my lady's health. |

All of the hormonal systems carry the same disclaimers. The ring places less hormone in the system and has lower risk than most.
The fact remains that the side effects of any medication on the market are lower than the side effects of whatever it is intended to preclude. In the case of hormonal contraception, more women would die of complications of pregnancy than complications of the pill.

Greyshadow, though Brandye's words are very true, I think there are a lot of women who are worried and probably even their men. Every girlfriend on hormonal bc I've talked with over the past years, admits she's scared of what hormones do to her body and how she feels "different". Whenever using it for pure birthcontrol-reasons, it means you're putting meds in a perfectly healthy body. It's not like you're ill and require meds to feel "better". Still you'd take it and even accept a little side-effects. That feels like a contradiction... The only reason for doing it is because there is a greater fear, called pregnancy. And that danger is very real!
I personally haven't felt better in my life since I quit the pill. I was on it for medical reasons of having very painful and strong bleeds as a young teen (age 11/12). After 10 years I thought it was worth the shot to stop. What a relieve! Even though it was very inconvenient as my relationship started only 3 months after... He has always been accepting about the fact I wouldn't start on hormonal birth control again. We used emergency contraceptive once, which is the heaviest hormonal stuff you can take, so gives an effect reaching the skies. He now not only accepts I won't take hormones, he stands by my decision. Even though I've put this experience in perspective for him considering low doses options. There's a quite chance I won't suffer any side-effects. Moreover: the fact that his fear of pregnancy is very high. I guess it's all about giving (up) and taking (for granted)... The danger of pregnancy is lurking. Cause however stable and low failure rated our way of natural family planning is, hormonal birth control is a so much more easy way to take control. NFP is not as user-friendly as it requires way more actions and things to consider; an entire database, calculations and lots of planning. There are a lot of options on different sorts and doses of hormonal bc and all are relatively easy to use. Hormonal bc requires merely getting an IUD every few years, changing a nuvaring every few weeks or a simple pill a day, to get maximum chance of keeping pregnancy away ![]()
