Oh my god... It's already been eight months.
So my doctor took me off the shots since all they've done is make me bleed. Now I'm on just birth control and have taken two week worth. I think the kind is Aviane. I'm still continuing to bleed. Is there something screwy with my body? I don't understand why this isn't working for me when it's worked for so many other women. Besides the pill I'm using up calcium pills she suggested I take when I was taking the shot. Could they be interfering? I just want to stop having my period because the flow is so heavy and I get so sick when I have it. I don't trust the doctor I go to anymore and I'm desperate for help. |

You do not trust the doctor. You are having continuing problems with bleeding. She did something rather unusual in putting you on the shot rather than a pill. The pill is a preferred treatment for many forms of dysmennorhea but the shot is not. You felt that you were hurried out by the doctor. You do not say how long after the shot you began on the pill. Some women take several months to develop regular cycles after the shot.
Why in the world have you not seen another doctor?

Every three months is how depo is administered. You get the first shot and are protected for three months except you did not need the protection. I have seen women tak nearly a year to restabilize their cycles after leaving depo.
See a doctor who takes a complete medical history and becomes familiar with what your problem is. No real advice can be given without that history and proper examination and lab work. And, make certain you understand any medications or limitations or whatever before you leave the office. The nurse is available to explain whatever needs clarification.

Well, I was more forthcoming with my doctor on a message I left. I spoke firmly, but said nothing more harsh than "I really don't appreciate that you told me the depo shot would work perfectly and didn't mention how bad side effects could be."
What happened? I got a message from some other lady, who still hasn't called back, saying I needed to have a discussion with her and that I need to see another care provider. Guess I'm screwed! I finally have a day off so I'm going to call all day tomorrow. However, can someone here tell me if you think I should continue to take the pills I'm on? I've used a month's worth and it hasn't helped on bleeding. My fear is it will get worse if I don't but maybe it could actually get better. I don't know when I'll get to see another doctor. |

No, you are not screwed; you are freed to find a doctor whom you trust and with whom you can talk about your own body.
If you are using the pills for contraception, keep taking them religiously. If you are not sexually active, it is often best to use up the current cycle and then talk to the new doctor.
