male condom alternatives?

I've been seeing this girl for a little while now, and we had sex for the first time last night. We started out without a condom because she told me that it was alright, and that she was on the pill (I've known her for awhile, and I trust her...I'm clean as well) but then as we started "picking up the pace" she asked if I would put one on.

I immediately obliged. However, I don't like condoms. Most of my previous partners have been on the pill and I've always just pulled out at the end. I don't get the same feeling with a condom. I don't know if I'm putting it on wrong or not, but the condom tends to "slip" down my shaft until my head is basically in the reservoir, and this is very uncomfortable. It got to the point where I had to switch out condoms and then the second one did the same thing. I finally just stopped because I couldn't take it anymore.

Any advice? I've looked into polyurethane condoms a little bit, does anyone have any advice on those? I'm fairly familiar with male condom alternatives but wanted to hear first-hand advice/experience if anyone can help out.

Thanks!

What Can I/We Do To Prepare For First Time Intercourse?

PART 2--Another view of the same question.
A Boy's Concern For Making the First Time Successful and Fulfilling

> I've been seeing this girl for a little while now, and we had sex for the first time last night. Why use a condom? How old are the two of you?

Safety from STDs is one reason.
Safety from pregnancy is another.

If you are in your teens or twenties then the two of you should be using three forms of contraception--hers, yours, & ours as a backup. Why? Because couples in this age range are the most prone to become pregnant for a variety of reasons.

From your details it seems as if you are more concerned with STDs than not getting her pregnant; otherwise you would have worn one from the beginning. Why? Because no contraceptive method is 100% reliable and about the time you try to pull one over on Mother Nature she will come back and smite you.** If you are going to participate in adult activities you have to be adult about your actions and responsibilities, also. In part this means looking out for #1 {you) and protecting yourself as she is doing. A third line of defense is also highly recommended.

Birth Control Failure Rates

**For safety's sake consider that precum has semen in it, so anytime the fluid appears, danger lurkes. Also, consider that you are playing a version of Russian Roulette only instead of one bullet in the cylinder of a six shooter, you have a fully loaded cannon! Point it anywhere in the vacinity of her vulva and there is a possibility a woman could be impregnated. Yes, the odds are low, however, there are odds none-the-less. Do not gamble with her life and future, your life and future, and especially someone as yet to be a part of the equation.

Condoms are made out of the following materials:
* latex
* polyurethane
* polyisoprene
* lamb membrane

The latter will not protect against STDs and is only recommended when a couple is in a committed relationship. They are also very fragile.

Few men like condoms yet we put up with them for the reasons given. If you want an alternative to latex, try polyisoprene.

> I've always just pulled out at the end.

This is not a very effective or reliable approach, even with the best of intentions.

> I don't get the same feeling with a condom.

Yup! None of us do. That said, you can get closer to the "same feeling" by applying some lubricant to the head of your penis only before rolling the condom on. This will give it more wiggle room inside thus transmitting more friction.

> I don't know if I'm putting it on wrong or not, but the condom tends to "slip" down my shaft until my head is basically in the reservoir, and this is very uncomfortable.

Condoms come in small, medium, and, large. Purchase and try different sizes. Different brands and their respective sizes may vary, so evaluate each brand.

I hope this is of help. Got questions?

I cannot imagine what she would accomplish by having you put on a condom part way through. Eaither disease transmission or pregnancy can be accomplished with a single insertion with or without ejaculation.

The most obvious recommendation is to use a female condom. They are a bit more expensive but the WHO has concluded that they are washable and reuseable. The package insert says they are single use. The male condom moves with the penis and this somewhat decreases sensitivity. The female condom does not move with the penis and feels more realistic for the man. When used for contraception, it is recommended that vaginal spermicide be used in the vagina AND in the female condom. They seem somewhat strange at first but when a couple gets accustomed, they are a good solution with about the same effectiveness as regaular condoms. Contraceptive jelly added makes them about as effective as the pill.
