Question No good with the pill

I started taking the pill a few years ago not for the contraceptive side of it but to help with my periods, as I was getting cramps up to ten days in advance. I eventually gave up on it as aside from the fact that I am not good at remembering to take it, even when I was taking it properly I found I was bloating alot more, retaining fluid, was more emotional (not just at PMS time), and was still getting pain well in advance of my period again.
I have now stopped taking it and have an appointment with a gynaecologist soon but am wondering if anyone here has any suggestions. I now do need the contraceptive part as well so am keen to get some ideas.
I have thought of Implanon, some people I know have had no problems with it, and others said it turned them into a lunatic. Any opinions?

If you did not adjust well to the pill, stay away from implanted hormones. Tell your doctor what pill you were on and what the effects were. You can try other pills or, even, types of pills. With a look at your medical history and a proper exam, the doctor is likely to suggest a completely different type of pill. Consider also that the Nuva Ring puts the lowest amount of hormone in the body lessening the chance of reaction.

Whatever you end up with, set your phone or some such to remind you each day - or, with the ring, each month.

thanks for that, part of the problem is doing shift work and finding it hard to find a regular time of day. But I'm sure with a little more effort I could do that.

Well I've now seen a Gynaecologist who has said it's quite likely I have endometriosis and has booked my in for a laparoscopy to confirm diagnosis and treat it. They'll also put in an IUD (Mirena) at the same time as I don't like the pill.
