Hey everyone, I dont really post much here, i'm more of a lurker, but i went to the doctors today to go on the pill for the first time.
I'm 19 and... feel pretty foolish admitting i have no clue what i'm supposed to do. ![]() My Doctor basically took my blood pressure, asked me if i smoke (which i dont) handed me a prescription for Microgynon 30 and told me to start it the first day of my next period. I know i should've asked more questions (hindsight is such a wonderful thing ) But what is it that i actually do? What will happen to me when i take the pill on the first day of my period? Will that make my period stop?I guess i sound pretty stupid asking all this, but i dont really have anyone else i can talk to about it. Any help would be really appriciated. ![]() |

ive just started going on it the other day, im also 19... it doesnt stop your period.. you still get it, but it makes it so you know exactly when your period is due and you can put your period off for special occasions by taking two packs consecutivly! x

Please, rose, do not say that nor do that. You, too, should read Caution: Take Only as Directed. I know women use the pill to vary their periods and have, on occasion, assisted some in doing so. It is a good way to get your system all messed up and actually increase the chances of pregnancy.

the doctor at the hospital (which i got them from) told me this after having an abortion, and he said it would be absoloutly fine to do that, for instances such as when you go on holiday its not unusual to take 2 packs in a row then have your bleed. he said it is absoloutly safe

I tried it once b/c I was going to be going to the beach and didn't want to be having my period. So I skipped the "period" pills and went right into a new pack.
I still started having that brownish red very light flow (close to my periods due date)...and then it did that for like almost 2 weeks... LOL. Which was more annoying I think b/c it was heavy enuff I needed a pad/liner but too light to use a tampon! Needless to say.. that didn't help me any so I haven't tried it again since!

OK, rose, I'll not argue that. The problem is that there are about forty different pill formulations on the market. Some are more amenable to that than others. Your posting can encourage women on other systems to try and that could be less than satisfactory. Microgynon is possibly the most prescribed oral contraceptive in the UK. It is essentially a basic combination generic that has been around a long time but is known by other names in other parts of the world.
There are pills that are 21 on and 7 off; some have placebo to take the during the 7; others have medication, but different, for those seven days. A chirpy statement that "I can regulate my own period" can mislead those not familiar with the various pills. And then there is that woman who may want it a few days later this month and a few days earlier next month. That is playing with fire. Demon's experience is not unusual with trying to do this. Pill recommendations are specific to the pill and the woman taking them.
