need help on understanding

i would like to know how can you get genatal herpies can u get it from only sex or does it have to be direct contact to get it? like for example if some one had a coldsore and they touched it then a cup and you touched then touched your penis could you get it?

From my understanding, Herpes is from skin to skin contact. I don't know about the cup stuff, but if your skin touches theirs when they have a sore or around a sore is forming you can get it. Sex is a way of getting it, yet that doesn't mean you have to have sex to get it.

maybe a doctor or nurse here can tell you more.

You have confused the two types. Type 1 is the cold sore which transmits through kissing and sharing a cup (more difficult for transmission but can happen).

Type 2-is genital and if in contact with an infected person through oral, touch, genital to genital you can get it. Read through the sticky's Brandye wrote extensively on this.
