No sex drive

I'm currently on desogen, about to switch to the generic for this last month (PP was closed today, hope this doesn't effect anything) and a couple months ago I started realizing that I have no urge for sex at all. At first I thought maybe I just didn't enjoy sex but I don't even want oral either. I didn't call in to switch because this is the only side effect I have. I was on nortrel before and it was absolutely terrible for me and I'm scared that if I switch it'll be to something worse. Since this is my last pack I was going to call PP on monday for my pap and I was wondering if I should tell them what's going on when I'm there and ask them to switch? Also, I'm wondering if I should just not take them for this month. I'm nervous about trying anything while I was on desogen for 5 months and now switching to apri anyway. So any information or input on this would be appreciated ^^

Talk to your Doc ASAP about it. Often if they switch you a few times to different pills one may work well. If this does not work, the libido return, talk to the doc about other forms of BC.

If you have exhausted all types of the pills [3 main ones]; look at alternatives such as an IUD, Cervical Cap, Diaphragm, etc. which have no hormones. An added barrier to these can be a Spermicide to be really careful or his use of a condom. You should not keep experiencing these side effects.

Thanks for the reply, I'll call in Monday and make an appointment for my pap next month and talk to her about switching them. The first time I book BC I was 16 so I don't know if that had anything to do with the side effects I was having (terrible mood swings and always depressed). I remember the mg being 35 and looking up that was a medium dosage, the doctor I had back then wasn't very....respectable I guess you could say so I ended up waiting 3 years to get on them again and went somewhere else.

Holy fuck! What is all this medication for? If it is affecting you so badly then it is time to stop. Condoms aren't so bad really.

35 mg of what?? That is about nine times the active ingredient of the first birth control pills back in 1960.

Ther two pills you mention are essentially identical from a pharmacology perspective. Should have about the same side effects.

Talk to your doctor.

I agree w/Brandye you need to see a good gyn & both pills are identical compounds.

The best I can figure what you are explaining is the mg--you missed a decimal point in the dose. More like; 0.15 mg [Deso] and 0.03 mgs [E. Estradiol] or if it's in mcgs it will look higher yet be the equivalent of the mg.

If you are strictly on it for BC purposes; I would call the doc and not begin a new pack until seen and be certain to use CONDOMS AND A VAGINAL SPERMICIDE. I would explain the matter on the phone Monday and see what the office suggests. This is a BCP also used for acne. Be certain of the risks and keep yourself safe.

Jonathan: That's what I thought but when I first started BC I almost drove my boyfriend away and this pill is great except for the sex drive thing lol. So I'm nervous about switching again.

Brandye: Realized I read the nortrel (found out its also called Ortho-Novum 7/7/7 and generic is Necon) pack wrong lol, this is actually what it was
Triphasic
Week 1: Ethinyl Estradiol 35 mcg, Norethindrone .5 mg
Week 2: Ethinyl Estradiol 30 mcg, Norethindrone .75 mg
Week 3: Ethinyl Estradiol 35 mcg, Norethindrone 1.00 mg
No idea if that's medium or low, I read on various websites it was medium but I'm not a doctor so I have no clue. I'm also glad to hear that desogen and apri are the same, when I called PP to get them to call in she told me there was a slight difference so I was a little worried about it.

Sera: I'll be sure to mention it on Monday when I call, I bought some condoms a couple months ago just in case so we should be fine. I already went and picked up my BC so I'll probably be taking them tonight, guess it would have made more sense to just call in Monday and try to set the pap up for next weekend since me and my boyfriend will probably only have intercourse once or twice. Also, I read about the acne when I first got them but it never helped mine lol. I had no good side effects from this pill or bad except the decreased sex drive.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I feel better about taking apri for this month and also about switching pills, hope the next one will work out.
