STD problem?

So my gf has been having a few problems with her vagina over the last few weeks, and she went to see a doctor last week about it. The doctor listened to the symptoms and decided to give her a test for chlamydia and gonorrhea....

I've done a bit of research, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I found info about their symptoms and stuff, but I want to know how they are transmitted, or if they can be caught besides having sex? Since they are bacterial, is it possible to catch them from someone who doesn't actually have the STD? It sounds liek a really silly question to me but I guess its possible...

So basically, what I want to find out is if either or both of them come back positive, should I start suspecting she cheated on me? I don't really think she has since she has been spending pretty much every night with me, but who knows for sure...

There is one way to transmit these two bacterial diseases and that is to have contact with someone who is infected. They can be transmitted orally or, more commonly, genitally.

They can be transmitted without the knowledge of the person infected. Both of these are more noticeable in men because of dripping and painful urination. They can be sub-clinical - that is the symptoms have not become evident - and passed on. It is more common for women to have the disease in a silent mode.

If either of you is infected and you are sexually active, then both of you are likely to be infected. You, too, should be tested.

Who brought it into the relatiosnip is for the two of you to decide.

Yeah if it comes back positive I'm pretty sure I'd have it too since we've been having unprotected sex.. Is the test painful for males? It doesn't sound pleasant from what I've read.

I trust her, but I'm quite worried. I don't know what I'll do if it comes back positive.

The test may be uncomfortable but not actually painful.

The doctor is doing a routine testing that many of us would do in these circumstances. Wait until the results to get upset.

Yeah I know I should wait for the results before getting worked up.. It could be any number of other things. It is hard not to worry about it in the meantime for the next 2 weeks though. I'm thinking I should probably get a full screen in the next couple of days so I have my own results at around the same time and could get treated if needed at the same time.

Why haven't you ever been tested before?? Are you each others first partners??? Like Brandye said, some STDs can lay dormant and undetectable for a long time.

Eh, you know what young people are like. We think we're invincible. I've only had one sex partner before her though, as had she, so we just assumed we were both fine.

How long can they remain 'silent' for? Unlimited amounts of time, or is there a reasonable average?

I went to get tested yesterday, and it was nothing like I read online.. The doc just asked me if I had reason to suspect I had been exposed, if I had any symptoms, then took a blood and urine sample. I get the results on thursday.
