Girlfriend does not get periods regularly.

My girlfriend does not get them regularly, once every few months. Would the morning after pill actually give her a period?

No, it's not the intended use and can be unsafe for this. She needs to see a gyn, have an exam, and discuss it with the doc. Your both in college [from your other post] they have clinics for college students and a weekly gyn one.

No. And it's not intended for people who know better. If the condom breaks she should be using another form of Birth control as well. The MAP is not just for condom breaks...it's not a simple solution. There is no excuse for her not using another form of BC with you. You use a condom to prevent STD's & as a back up; she also uses a method. Both take control for the protection of themselves.

And any woman should have a gyn exam prior to engaging in any sexual activity. I personally believe you should have one at the onset of the first period.

Look at what you asked in this thread...MAP to regulate a period.

Not to regulate, that was not the question. What I am saying is, if I was to have sex, with a condom, it breaks. Does the MAP work on a girl that does not get her period as often as she should. The MAP WOULD be the backup if this were to happen.

Yes, it can work but is not always reliable. Know the time frames for taking it; the sooner the better. If she is irregular yes, it shoudl work. However, a tube of vaginal spermicide is cheaper & prevents the side effects of the MAP. The MAP does not always work. Prevention of an issue is primary.

Also look at the potential for a dormant STD transferred if it [the condom]does fail.

Not at all! They provide additional protection. Using both, a condom & the vaginal spermicide is as effective as the BCP if not more. Spermicides are on some condoms but not nearly enough in the dosage to help a rupture...they only help if you have a leak from the edges of the base of the penis. The spermicides in vaginal foam/jelly or films are a higher dose than a condom with spermicide as a lubricant. Look for vaginal KY with spermicide or a foam with spermicide...or look at the "Today sponge" or the Vaginal contraceptive films.

I would go with either the Jelly or the foam right now until you are comfortable...make it part of your foreplay.

You are very welcome!

Fatal,

I hope you are reading around the Board - especially the stickies on Sexcual Health and for First timers. Your questions seem to indicate a basic lack of knowledge about how sex works and, especially, how the female body works.

It is not at all unusual for women to skip periods and get periods unexpectedly. This is especially true among teen aged women still maturing.

The morning after pill is 75-90% effective; the sooner, the better after an accident.
