Nuvaring quick question

I was on the pill for about a year and decided to try a new method of BC. I went to the local clinic and got Nuvaring a little over a week ago.

Something that has been bothering me a little bit is that I saw a diagram and was told about how the ring is supposed to fit pretty far into the vagina near the cervix, and that is not how my ring fits at all. It fits so that one edge is of it is not even an inch into my vagina. I have tried to adjust it and push it back and it just returns to its normal position after a while. I can't feel it normally, but it bothers me and my partner when he tries to finger me.

My questions are:

Does this positioning in the vagina make the ring less effective?

I was told that you can take the ring out for 3 hours at a time, is that ideal to do everyday?

Well to be honest...not knowing too much about the ring, I would have to say, as long as it sits in comfortably (cant feel it) and it goes in like and O rather than sideways like an l Then you should be ok...I would think that even if it went way up into your vainga, your man would still feel it...

It should be all the way in...contact the prescriber or try to reposition is a squatting position. Brandye would most likely be the most help here...

Ducy, to be honest, you do not know what you are talking about and should not give uninformed opinion to a serious question.

Some few women do not adjust to the ring. Please see your doctor with the ring in place so that she can estimate whether or not it will be acceptable for you. I have never encountered this with a patient but it is mentioned in the literature.

As long as you are getting the hormones, it is effective. Some women do expel the ring and cannot use it. You sound like you are on the verge of this.

The three hours is not a requirement. It merely gives an indicator about how rapidly the level of hormone in your bloodstream drops off below an effective level. No need to ever remove it unless you have a prescribed douche.

My ring fits about a finger's length into me. You can feel it when you stick your finger in - if you couldn't you wouldn't be able to remove it. Yours does sound like it is a little closer to the front than mine is, but you will still absorb the hormones so on that front it shouldn't matter. You could just be a little looser - kegel exercises might help. As for the three hour thing, once I removed it for fingering and went out and realized I hadn't put it back in. I got it in before three hours were up, but since I have never removed it for sex. The risk of forgetting to put it back in is too compelling for me. My bf and I haven't been bothered by it, tho. I know he can feel it if he fingers me, but he's never objected to that.
