Smile How long does it take?

My husband and I want to have another kid. I am on birth control and was wondering how long it usually takes after I have stopped taking the pill to become pregnant?

When you stop the pill your body will be ready to ovulate. This is the very reason why many who skip/miss a pill accidentally become pregnant. See or call your gyn first, some want to see patients (for a full physical) prior to attempting to conceive & some docs want you off the pill for a few cycles.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if somebody misses the pill one night are they not still protected during that period? I was under the impression that the pill continues to work as long as you take it the next day, it just loses a bit of effectiveness.

The pills that are out now..are low dose and therefore very time sensitive.
That is why you take it the same time every day.. to maintain hormone levels.
If you miss a pill and your hormones drop to a certain lvl for too long.. you could ovulate an egg during that time.

The pill works in 3 main ways...
1. it stops ovulation
2. thins the lining of the uterus
3. thickens the mucus plug over the cervix, making it harder for sperm to get by.

Raidenator,

You are at risk. The modern very low dose pills drop below therapeutic level very quickly. See my sticky on "Take Only As Directed."

I did read it after this. I never meant to imply that I'm not practicing safe sex. I've always got a fallback, I just was under the impression that that's what it was supposed to do.
