doxy + pill + condom

i'm on doxycycline for acne as well as on ortho tricycline birth control and i was aware that the effectiveness of my pill is lessened while i'm on doxy so when i had sex for the first time we used a latex condom as well. the condom didn't break and i got my period this week so i'm 99.99% sure i'm not pregnant

is there anything else i should be doing to be safe or does it sound like i have my bases covered?

I think you are a-okay. But have you thought about the long term re-occurring issue? Meaning, if you are on Doxy all the time it will always produce the same issue of decreasing the effectiveness. If the BCP is being prescribed strictly for BC, have you considered other methods such as switching to an IUD? This seems counter-productive to me.

Sera hits it spot on. I would not put a patient on these two drugs. The doxy will reduce the effectiveness of any hormonal contraceptive - pill, shot, ring, patch. If the doxy is short-term, then continue the tricyclene but use a condom as well; if long-term, you are wasting money on the tricyclene.

Any time a condom is being used for contraception a spermicidal vaginal jelly (or foam, film, suppository) should be in you.

no i'm on the pill because my dermatologish had me on acutane and kept me on the pill once i went off for the skin benefits (went off acutane 3 years ago)

i'm now weaning myself off doxy - doing one pill less a week after every three weeks but i wont be completely off it for another few months

i've told my boyfriend that we should continue using a condom even after i'm completely off it anyway

Stop spots or stop spotting? SHE should talk to her doctor.
