Question Is this just spotting?

I am on Birth Control. I have been taking it since september or abouts, so not that long but a while. Last month I decided to skip my period, by moving on to the next pack of pills the week of my period, which my doctor told me would be fine. She warned me that after 3 months or more you could get spotting, so some people don't like to do it for to long a time, but its not to bad, just a little blood. Well, I have only skipped one period. I am almost to the end of this second pack (3 pills left) and now I am starting to really bleed. Earlier this week I was spotting a little bit, but nothing too noticable, which I thought was odd since I only skipped one period, but figured it was ok. But.. Now I am like already on my period it seems like and I am still taking the pills. Is this normal??

I have done the same but for other reasons (medical), also was able to skip once cycle then had some breakthrough bleeding later during the active pills had a full menstrual cycle. I found it was not worth trying to hold off the regular period and was switched to Depo.

I shall not argue with your doctor. The two of you have to work this out. I discourage my patients from messing with their schedules by palying with pills because this is often the result. The traditional pill (in whatever formulation) is not intended to hold the period off for a long time. The lower dose pills are the more likely to have this result. No long term harm has been done.

The important thing now is to continue on the pill as per the schedule. I would also advise some back up contraception for a couple weeks after your flow stops.
