Pill related side effects-no sex drive?

Hello! I am planning on getting on BC and i have done a good amount of reading on it. I have read about the good side effects and bad side effects. However, i was talking to my friend who was on the pill recently, and she was on it for a while. She said that the pill completely got rid of her sex drive. I have never heard of this happening before, and it was not mentioned in the side effects i read about. I know that everyone's body is different, but is this a common side effect of the pill?

Read around the board and you will find dozens of threads on this. We each adapt to each pill differently. It some times takes a woman trying several different pills before finding the one that does what she wants with acceptable levels of side-effects. The low dose pills available today have the advantage of generally causing lower side effects; they have the disadvantage that they MUST be taken perfectly regularly to keep the "therapeutic level" of hormones in the bloodstream from dropping and allowing an egg to be released.

Tell your friend to ask her doctor about the ring. It puts the lowest level drugs in the system of all hormonal approaches. Then, there is the IUD with no hormones.

I am not sure what level I am on, but I have noticed a definite decrease in sex drive. It's not to bad, because I am still like open to having sex. But I never want it as bad as before. Then again I used to have too strong a sex drive so it is probably for the better. lol

I'm on the pill but it really hasn't had much of an effect on that. Sometimes I wish it did though. I have a higher sex drive than most men- seriously. So like Brandye said, just work with your doctor to see what would be right for you.

Hey Iv been on the pill for a year and i have no sex drive what so ever.
But i agree with the other people, talk to your doctor to find whats rigth for you, thats what im doing.

BCP's can decrease libido talk to your MD to see which may be best suited for you. Sometimes you have to try different brands...

i am the same way. I never thought abt it before but not long after i got on the pill my sex drive wasnt as aggressive. hmmm
