Same issue years back, I found depo. worked very well for me but I have heard the opposite from other women. The main issue w/depo is once it's injected you are stuck w/it and the side effects for 3 months unlike the pill where you can stop it immediately and use another BC method. Also, if you are considering pregnancy in the near future; it takes at times 1 year to return to fertility after stopping the depo.
I found Triphasil BCP works better for decreaed libido...talk to your doctor though.

Consider an IUD. They are underrated in the family of contraceptives because they got a blackeye from one bad model twenty or more years ago. They are roughly as effective as the hormones and are available with and without a hormonal coating. One time in and an annual check. Most women tolerate them quite well after, perhaps, some early breakthrough spotting.

I have been on the Depo shot. I was on it for 2 years and after I stopped I still have problems. I will not recommend it. You can always look up all the side affects for it. One of the biggest side affect is weigh gain. I gained 50 lbs in no time. There are about 15 side affects for Depo.

I know this might be too late for your post, but DO NOT EVER TAKE DEPO!! This drug causes bone density loss. I'm 34 and have the bone density of a 50+ year old woman. I have no family history of this. There's a black box warning on it now. I took it for a year and a half, before the warning was put on the box. Please don't risk your health for birth control. Find a pill that works and/or use condoms.

Unfortunately, whenever someone takes medications they always alter your body. The question is; does the benefit outweigh the risks? Understanding all potential side effects of medications and being aware of them is imperative. Unfortunately, what is found out about meds later, where there are significant adverse health risks is part of unintended consequences and the reason for so much litigation. Education is the best way to ensure what the risks are to make an informed decision.

Thats why you have to take extra supplements of calcium when on the depo, and your doctor should be someone you trust to tell you all info about the contraception method. |
