I just got on the patch a couple of hours ago... how many weeks does it take before coming into effect?

I am on the pill which is hormonal BC as well. My DR said the packet says you are protected after the first week, but she suggested one complete cycle. Use condoms or other backup method during this time.

With all forms of hormonal birth control most doctors recommend additional protection for one complete cycle as Demon suggests.

Do you normally feel kind of nauseaus the first few days after the patch has been on?

Yes any hormonal BC can make you feel nauseaus at any time. I take my pill at night just in case for that reason. W/ the patch, you really don't have that option
