Another Birth Control Thread
So me and my GF have become active recently. We have never used any type of protection, but I withdrawl every time. However I was reading some threads about getting pregnant without me ejaculating in her and now I'm not so sure. Assuming I withdrawl 100% of the time, does that not equal 100% safe?
So far she has hit her period twice so I'm not sure if we are just lucky or if the chances are really really slim with withdrawing 100% of the time. We were talking about getting birth control pills but could anyone tell me how much they cost per month, roughly? My gf and I are in love with each other, and are going to get married in the near future, so pregnancy would not be the end of the world. However, we would rather not have a kid just yet. That being said, I'm looking on advice on how to continue on with sex. Stick to withdrawing? Use a condom and still withdraw? Get birth control? Any input would be helpful. Thanks. |

If you're using the withdrawal method and are keeping perfect score of her timing with respect to ovulation, etc., statistically you stand a 9-10% chance of her getting pregnant within one year. It may happen to you next time, it may not happen to you at all until you get on some other form of BC. Withdrawal is NOT very effective at preventing pregnancy overall, and even with you pulling out before you cum, there's the chance that some of your pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain some sperm.
As for how much BC costs, it depends on which kind you get on. Most pills will cost around $30 a month if you don't use insurance (or your insurance company is a douche and doesn't cover it). The safest way to continue having sex would be to get her on the pill, and use a condom - that's as close to 100% effective as you can get and still have sex. Second best would be to get her on the pill and not use a condom (still over 99% effective if she takes it like she's supposed to). The third best option would be to use condoms alone. Those are about 98% effective IF they are used correctly every single time. Your call. |

Some health clinics and planned parenthood clinics will give them for free or cheaper than usual.

Actually, these things are free in the U.S., too, as long as you can find a free clinic locally. Where I live we have these, and they are 100% free and confidential. I get the Ring (NuvaRing) from mine, and I've never had to pay a penny for any of the services they offer. Most colleges will have a free or reduced cost clinic, but you may still want to look into a free local clinic. I have health coverage, but even with insurance it would be 10 or 15 bucks for me to get BC through them, while the free clinic is... free!
