starting a new pill pack

I've been on the pill for years. Next month I'll be going to visit my guy, we plan on having unprotected sex and him finishing inside me. I'll be starting the first pill of the new pack...will it be just as effective that first day as if I'd been on them for a couple of days.

One more question...do I need to take the placebo pills (non-hormone)? I know when to start the pills again.

You should take the pill EXACTLY as prescribed. Some systems have placebos and others have a different mix of hormones for those days. Too many women think they are taking placebos when they are actually taking a different hormone combination. It really is not too inconvenient to take the pills. The systems with placebos were originated because women found it more convenient to take a pill every day.

If you are already on the pill, you are covered. If you have been off the pill, then follow the doctors recommendation as though you are just starting.
