WOW. This is great information, Brandye.
I just joined this site a few days ago just because I had some querries that needed to be solved. Now not only I could solve my querries but to learn more about pills. I haven't taken any pills before but have been thinking about it lately because I do not like the idea of condom. My mood can be very much affected by the scene of a guy putting on a condom ... although I know well that condom can protect me not only from pregnancy but also HIV and other diseases ... still don't like it. |

Curious. I was talking to my girlfriend about her pill and asked her what she did when we had a late night out (she usually takes it at about 11). She told me that she just takes it when she gets home. I said, "But I heard that that's a no no. Pills screw you up if you take them more than an hour out of sync because of the low hormone pils that they have out." She told me that she wasn't taking a low hormone pill. What does that change as far as the pills go?

By historical standards, all of today's pills are low dose. Some are lower than others. This is geared to body mass, doctor's preference, tolerance of the hormones. She will likely get away with being a few hours off but it is not a good practice. So many other things, such as diet, could be pushing the therapeutic level lowere. Ser is quite correct. Put them in her purse.

I take mine at 11 pm too.
I usually take it maybe an hour later or sometimes I might take it 30 min to an hour earlier? Is that bad too? LOL Is earlier as bad as later?

As a practical matter an hour or so will not cause problems. But remember that if you go half an hour early one night and a half hour late the next, you have added an hour to the second day. I caution my patients when travelling across multiple time zones to work into the new schedule an houra day.
Consider that if you take a pill in Toronta and a day later in London, at the same time, you will have shortened the time between pill by six hours. OK, no big deal travelling East. Now, going back to Toronto, take a pill in London and the next night in Toronta at the same time and you will have thirty hours between pills. We emphasize staying on schedule because so many (young) women are careless. If you forget a pill before bed, that adds eight hours between pills.

prilosec
k looked everywhere for the answer before asking because I well I ask questions I usually know the answer to but just want to be sure. I have looked on multiple sites wondering if Prilosec would mess with my bc microgestin 1.5/30. As far as I can tell it says nothing about over the counter medications for acid reflux or prilosec interfering with it but I was just wondering. I just changed and am goign to start my period on monday! And I feel cramps hooray!! to be honest I am rather excited about that jsut wanted to make sure I made the transition and I knwo my body and this is normal so woot! woot!. I take it everyday at the same time except for a few times when I have missed it by a max of six hours. Wich thanks to brandey I found out is actually enough time for an egg to slip out. Wich I am glad I am aware I am a nazi about takeing it at the same time and pride myself on it but lately I have been with out my phone as it has been out of order and my alarm is on it. I have a habit of carrying it with me even when I can't use it becasue of the Bc factor but I got lazy over the holidays. I am actually very happy with micrsogestin 1.5/30. Some said they had increased mood swings? I have not experianced this maybe because I am always a bitch lol! kidding! but seriousley I have nto had any negative effects on this pill as of yet but it's still new. I also read the thread about the girl who was rather unimpressed with family planning. I have gone there since the begining of my anual paps and yes I trust them to take the resposibility and recomend me the safest most effective contraceptive that they can that suits my needs and my lifestyle, but it is also my resposibility to make sure that I am informed and educated about what goes into my body and how it will affect me. Not saying that we should not put faith into the needs provided to us usally at no cost to us either, but not to put them at fault either when PG happens. I belive bc and any method of it is a neccessary action to take when being sexually active but just because it is the right thing to do does not mean it is a decision that should be made lightly. My opinion that's all. Well I just wanted to put my two cents in on this matter and ask my yet once agian stupid question I think know the answer to. thanks!
