My girlfriend recently got birth control pills, but she tells me that they take three months until they become effective, and she doesn't want us to have sex until that time, even if I'm wearing a condom. Is this true? Do they really take three months? I've been trying to do some research on my own, and what I've found seems to say that the pills are effective almost immediately, providing you start them at the right time of the cycle.
So, what's right? How long does it really take? |

Most professionals recommend one complete cycle before having unprotected sex. In the intervening month, it is recommended that an additional method (condom, spermicide) be used.
Three onths is not in anyone's guidelines. You should certainly be safe with her on the pill and using condoms. Not a bad idea but women usually go bare when they are on the pill and in a stable relationship.

Michael, the original question had to do with regular birth control pills. Your little outburst addresses the morning after pill.
1. You do not have the discomfort of taking the pill. 2. She should not take another morning after pill - and, if like most women, she will not want to. 3. The morning after pill is about 75% effective - that means 25% ineffective. 4. Having taken the pill, her endocrine system is messed up enough that no one knows whether it will still protect her. You sound like a real piece of work. Until you find some basic respect for your girlfriend, and for yourself, you should keep your zipper up.

I dunno, but the MA pill isn't made for if you are on BC pills and your partner wants to come inside...that BC pill is made for that already. the MA pill is mainly for like....if you are just using a condom as your method of birth control and it breaks or slips off or something like that.
How long has she been on the regular BC pills? who gave her the MA pill and did they know she was already taking BC pills? I am all confused, lol. Yea like Brandye said, now she is all outta whack and who knows what her body is going through. Taking the MA pill can make you feel really shitty. Plus you can't be like taking everyday as your form of birth control. Plus that was pretty shitty to disregard what she said and come inside her anyways * Sex and pregnancy isn't something you just play around w/! Its very serious and can have serious consequences. I guess I should have lied and said...YEA it does take 3 months for them to be effective.. then your g/f wouldn't be in this situation. *
