snochaser is on a distinguished road
I have searched the web for a while and I am looking for some "educated" advice. I have been in a relationship where my gf told me before it went too far that her ex had given her HPV. Needless to say after several months the sexual frustration is drving us both crazy. On a cdc site I found this "Latex condoms can only protect against transmission when the ulcers or infections are in genital areas that are covered or protected by the condom." My question is this. Can we ever have sex and not have me become infected? What are my options? She has been sympton free for over eight months.

I was tested positive for hpv and there are no symptoms for this disease. A lot of people think that it is a nasty virus but it can be caused by condoms too. The doctor I went to said that most the people that have hpv do not even know that they have hpv and soon their immune system just knocks it out. I am not very educated about the virus, Brandye may be able to help you out with it. I got pregnant about 7 months ago and was tested for all std's and there is no trace of hpv even though I tested positive for it 6 months prior to my pregnancy. My bf has been tested for it and he is negative, so there are many different possibilities. I would say ask her doctor or maybe Brandye has a reply like I said.

Brandye is a jewel in the rough
There are about 70 HPV viruses. It is estimated that about 60% have accumulated a few of these by the age of sixty. Two HPV are specifically identified with cervical cancer a couple more are suspect. Most of the rest are essentially free of any symptoms and have no really noticeable affect on our lives. They come; they go; usually we are unaware.

Lest I seem to minimize, I would recommend that you two, together, get to a clinic specializing in STD's or a women's health clinic and get educated. The ulcers you allude to may not even be part of the disease; that sounds more like herpes. This is serious enough that you need direct advice from some competent person. Nothing you get from an internet doctor can address the issues you need resolved.

There has recently been developed a vaccination that prevents transmission the four bad actor HPV's. That means that vaccine can be developed for the others that prove to be bad.

I am not certain you are dealing with HPV. Get the medical advice.

The ulcers I referred to were just part of the original quote I took from the Center for Disease Control website and their report on the effectiveness of condoms preventing transmission of STD's. My girlfriend has been diagnosed with HPV which she got from her previous partner. She received seven weeks of treatment and has been symptom free for nearly nine months. Like I said before I am just looking around trying to get as much info as I can to see if it is possible for her and I to have sex while reducing any chance of infection. I have not talked to my doctor yet because I am in the information gathering stage. Any sage advice is appreciated.
