I'm not sure if this goes here or not but when I got out of the shower today I noticed the skin before my vaginal opening was rough. There were not bumps, it doesn't hurt or anything and I haven't had sex yet. I tried looking this up on google but all I could find was vulva cancer but it's not white down there either. Everything looks perfectly fine, my periods are okay, along with my discharge and everything else so I have no idea why it's rough. Also it's been itching in the same spot for months whenever I get out of the shower so could it just be irritated? I don't know what's been causing the itching and now it feels rough there so could anyone help me with this?

Sounds like a common thrush or yeast infection at a very low level. It will not get better on its own. See your doctor and in a day or two this will go away.

I admire your looking around for a solution and I am glad there are good medical sites aorund. The key, however, is putting in complete symptoms and the risk is we "discover" we have cancer when it is really something much less threatening. The opposite can also happen.

In this case you identified the problem in your vagina when the irritation is actually on the vulva. Computers are linear and cannot identify alternatives such as this.

Thanks for the reply! I always look on google before I post and I'll try to get to the doctor in a couple of days, thanks again.

I'm having another problem (well kind of) I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I didn't mention this earlier because I didn't think much of it. Anyway I was looking up what might have caused this and it said I could be allergic to nonoxynol-9 or latex. I did come in contact with a latex condom that had nonoxynol-9 and a few weeks before that I used spermicide. I got the yeast infect about 4 or 5 days after I came in contact with the latex condom. I didn't mention this before because he's never done anything sexually with anyone else (and also didn't go in) so I knew it wasn't an STD and I wasn't even thinking I could have been allergic. So I was wondering if we should switch condoms (not use latex) or keep using latex and not use ones that contain nonoxynol-9 or just keep using them and see if it comes back. My vagina was itching a lot a month or two before all of this so I was wondering if we should switch or just see if it comes back?

I recommend poly condoms to everyone. They avoid latex allergies and, at a microscopic level, are less abrasive than latex. Wild weekends can turn uncomfortable with latex.

I also recommend using dry condoms and adding the spermicide (foam, jelly, whatever) in the vagina. This allows you to use whatever is most comfortable. I did a post on the three major spermicides recently and it has a link to a site that shows what the active ingredients are in each brand of spermicide. If you are sensitive to detergents, you want to avoid non-oxy 9.

These issues would not cause the yeast infection. Though the symptoms of latex allergy may feel similar.

Question

Ah, thank you Brandye, never heard of poly condoms which is why I haven't had sex since I was 16 and found out about my latex allergy (guess how ) and I didn't get an STD test so I was scared for her saftey more than anything. Anyways, thanks for being really helpful as always.

Sorry I haven't posted for awhile but I went to the doctor and she said it just looked irritated and perscribed some vaginal cream for me which helped somewhat. And thanks for telling me about poly condoms and helping me with this.
