My girlfriend and i have been having sex safely (condom) MOST of them time, there are occasions where dont use one but i have always pulled out way before ejaculation. Thing is this month her period is a bit late and we are both worrying the worst. she tells me that it feels like she is going to start, all the signs but it just never happens. What should we do? wait a couple more days hoping she is just coming on late or what? Thanks very much

I would advise that you buy a pregnancy test before you start worrying too much. i think its possible that stress can delay menstruation do worrying wont help her.
once you are certain if she is pregnant then you discuss your options. Is her period usually regular? just get a test for piece of mind. the sooner u know the better. good luck! |

also--this is worst case so don't think about it too much because it is probably never going to happen--ovarian cancer...but don't worry about it

If I may..I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread for this..but I wanted to ask about a situation like this. I am on the pill and have been taking it regularly and haven't missed any. I had sex recently, a couple of days before my period without a condom, and I was wondering what the chances are of getting pregnant? I hope I'm just scaring myself, thank you for the help and sorry if this is the wrong place,

Im not quoting anything but I am sure a lot of women use the pill w/ no condom, I am one of those women. Tho it is smart to use both in case of stds and for extra pregnancy protection. Have you had your period?? you said it was just a few days before?

Oh Demon, you are so lucky you are not my partner, now due to my latex allergy (hives down there hurt alot) I use poly condoms, have her take the pill, use spermicidal jelly and add a spermicide to the condom along with the male pill. Yes I do have paranoia and no the government is not out to get me...yet...
But seriously I never rely on the pill alone so I would take some extra measures but that is probably my paranoia talking. Take care.

On to Devlin's question: If 100 sexually active women take the pill precisely as directed for one year, 3 will likely become pregnant. I applaud those of you for whom pregnancy would be a near disaster for using both pill and condoms. Generally, while on the pill, or other hormonal system, women do not use additional protection. The pill is the most common form of birth control for women between the ages of 18 and 30. Most of them in stable relationships rely on the pill alone.
Your chances of being pregnant, if you have been truly regular with the pill and have not changed any other medication, are extremely small. Not even measureable. Relax. The greatest risks for pregnancy while on the pill are missing a dose and other medications or dietary supplements. Anti-biotics are a particular risk because they are rather common (especially in the US) and doctors frequaently do not ask whether the patient is on the pill. There is a lot of stuff in health food stores that counteract any hormonal contraception. Vitamin E megadosing, chammomile tea, St John's wart and god knows what else. Only we women can estimate when we need the extra safety of a condom while on the pill. Most opt not to but those who do, congratulations. You have reduced your chance of pregnany to almost none and are taking the best precaution there is (next to saying "no" against STD.
