Just starting college and period is late

This happened to me a few times, and i always got over stressed which would add to the problem. This past time, right after i had posted the thread i went to the gyno and had an exam, everthing was fine. I thought about it for a few days and decided that since i was having sex on such a regular basis..i couldn't afford to be stressed so much, so i went on birth control, just to get rid of that extra worry in the back of my mind

Now, when i have sex, we still use a condom just for extra safety , and i know that i have close to zero chance of getting pregnant.

Well... I know that it isn't that, because I got it today. I'm just curious about what could have caused it, if not stress. They haven't been this far apart since it started.
